This can be done in like any host.
If I were you,I will consider ZaxiHosting as my hosting provider.
You wouldnt be lose – I host 3 sites with them,for over a year now.
Be sure to check them.

I like godaddy.com.. its a great site..You can buy your domain cheap.. they do hosting but .. I use google to host my email and website I like that setup and its free.

If you’ve opened your account through Y!SB and decide to cancel your account, yes you still own the domain name as long as it does not expire. You will NOT have access to your domain however. You will NOT contact MIT regarding your domain as Yahoo! will still control the domain registration.

No, you do not have the ability to delete the registration of your domain name. You can however transfer your domain to any registrar as long as the domain is not expired, and is at least 60 days old.

if you have not paid for it, then it is not registered.
you can check on this by doing a whois.

The place you "Register" you domain is called a Regstrar. Yahoo used one in Austraila. So they are the ones you would have to contact.
There are varying prices for registration so shop around.

Wow,,, that does suck…

If the only copy of the files exists on your old hosting account your pretty much at their mercy here…

I’d get on the phone and tell them that you want to move back to them first… explain that your backup is corrupted and get them to look for a backup on their system. Cross your fingers and hope that they actually have a backup of your site to restore.

I’ll cross my fingers for ya…
